The representative of the President at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and MP for Sekondi, Hon. Egyapa has underscored his interest in ensuring the creative arts space is made more vibrant.
He made these remarks when he was called on at the Ministry by Ghanaian dance-sensation, Ms. Danita Yeboah, popularly known as AFRONITA on Friday, 10th May 2024.
Afronita has over the years been a professional dancer and dance content creator whose passion for dancing has resonated nationwide; the most recent being a viral video of her and her dance counterpart, Abigail, performing on the Britain's Got Talent (BGT)stage.
The Minister shared how moved he was, by the quality of artistic talent showcased. A close interaction with the Press Secretary to the Minister-Designate, Mr. Shadrach Owusu revealed that Hon. Mercer noticed he had watched the video thrice and after his 3rd watch, he was convinced that he had to meet Afronita and her partner to congratulate them personally. “Although the performance was at the auditions of BGT competition, the performance by Danita and Abigail raised the flag of Ghana high”, Shadrach Owusu added.
The Minister also noted that he wouldn't be surprised if as a result of what transpired on the BGT stage, numerous foreigners decide to visit Ghana on the lines of dancing and performing arts, as Ghanaian arts and cultural expressions have always been the nation's biggest tourism selling points.
The lawmaker pledged his unwavering commitment to ensuring that the space gets more attention and sees more government support while congratulating Afronita and Abigail (who was not present at the time) for a job well done and expressed that what they had done ought not to be taken lightly at all.
