The Ghana Union of Traders Association is demanding investigations into the recent fire outbreaks in the capital.

It follows the controversy over the reconstruction of the Kantamanto market after it was gutted by fire, which destroyed properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis.

The affected traders suspect that it was an arson attack, ideally to drive them out of the market.

The Public Relations Officer for GUTA, Joseph Paddy, in an interview said investigations will reveal the cause of the fire and allay the fears of the traders.

Mr. Paddy also added that GUTA will hold a meeting today to discuss the procedures that will be taken in order to support the affected traders of the market.

Traders at Kantamanto have finally agreed to move out of the ravaged market to pave way for its reconstruction by government.

This arrangement follows a meeting between the Chief of Staff and the leadership of the traders.

The traders earlier threatened to go to court as they clashed with the police to stop the city authorities from taking over the market.

Deputy Information Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu told XYZ News that the current occupants of the market will be considered first in the allocation of sheds after the reconstruction.
