Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday, 3rd April 2019 announced a 30 and 50 percent reduction in import duties.
While leading the Economic Management Team (EMT) in a town hall meeting, Dr Bawumia said “to reduce the incidence of smuggling and enhance revenue, the benchmark or delivery values of imports have been reduced by 50 percent except for vehicles which will be reduced by 30 percent effective 4th April 2019”
Even though this news was met with a lot of excitement, some don't understand the meaning of the benchmark value.
Mr. Isaac Crentsil, Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) threw more light on the reduction when he interacted with the host of Peace FM morning show programme, 'Kokrokoo', Kwami Sefa Kayi
