On May 1st, 2015, Union Savings and Loans held a staff durbar at the University of Ghana campus to rejuvenate their workforce. In all, 260 staff members from the company’s numerous branches were invited to attend the ceremony.
In an interview with Mr. Philip Oti- Mensah, the MD for company, he stated that as an institution, they consider their staff as their most valuable assets.
During the occasion, 15 workers were promoted to take over supervisory positions and others who had excelled in customer service and other areas, were also meticulously rewarded.
“Our main message for today is to remind our staff about how far we have come as a company and to inspire them and make them believe in themselves. What has Union this far is that we are result and performance oriented and that would never change about us”, he noted.
According to the MD of the company, the motivation behind the organization of the event is to ensure that staff of Union Savings and Loans, are on the same level and to constantly remind them about the company’s vision.
“On this special day, we had to gather here to inspire our staff and check to see if there are issues to deal with”, Mr. Oti- Mensah said.
During the staff durbar, issues of staff welfare were also discussed. The company also improved their medical cover with their medical insurance company and has put in place mortgage and loan schemes for staff.
The Human Resource Coordinator for Union Savings and Loans, Mr. Andrew Manomey also touched on the importance of the event.
According to him, the event started with health screening and workers went through blood pressure and sugar level examination.
Aside this, he mentioned that basic counselling on how to have work-life balance were given to Union workers to enable them enjoy a stress free life.
“The reason for today’s durbar is to keep the focus of our vision and to remind our staff about why they joined the institution”, he said.
