Barely a month after the Bank of Ghana decided to change the GH50 note to avoid the counterfeiting of the currency, the criminals have shifted their attention to the GH1 coin.
The counterfeiters are feverishly putting more of the fake GH1 coins in circulation, usually through the coin sellers and the smaller shops. A closer look at the fake coins reveals that the gold colour in the middle is light, when compared with the original coin. The fake coin is also bigger in size than the original one.
The flower sign around it is also thicker than the original coin. Again, whilst the original GH1 coin has no writings in the flower, the fake one has small number embedded in it.
The Chronicle is, however, unable to determine those behind the printing of the fake coins. We hope the security agencies would set thier investigation machinery in motion to arrest the perpetrators.
