The Government of Ghana has pledged to establish Universities in all the 10 regions of the country by 2016; Finance Minister Seth Tekper disclosed before Parliament on Friday.
According to him, in line with government's pledge; a hostel block and the School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences has been completed in the Volta Region to provide quality education on the tertiary level.
He further noted that a bill has passed for the establishment of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development at the Eastern Region.
Also, various campuses will be completed by the government as part of measures to fulfill its promises to the Ghanaian populace.
“In line with our pledge to establish at least one public University in each of our 10 regions, government completed the School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences, and a hostel block, a sub quarters for the for the School of Health and Allied Sciences at its new site in Sokode in the Volta Region. Mr. Speaker, President Mahama will commission this University next week.”
“The bill for the establishment of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development in the Eastern Region was also passed by Parliament. Construction works for campuses which will be located at Donkorkrom and Somanya in the Eastern Region will commence in 2016," he read before the House.
