Deputy Communications Minister George Andah has described former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama as a "disgrace" to his "profession", following comments by the latter regarding government's launch of the first phase of the mobile money interoperability system.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday, May 10, 2018, launched the cross-network mobile money transactions system in Ghana.
Prior to that, at the University of Cape Coast when he spoke at the school’s Institutional Advancement Lecture last year, Dr Bawumia reportedly said: “There were many people who were offering similar solutions, but thankfully the BoG in collaboration with GhIPSS has finally been able to solve this problem and the interoperability system for Ghana will be launched next month.”
“What is even more remarkable about what has happened is that, again, a lot of people were quoting billions of dollars and it became an issue of public debate, but by the way, this system has now been built for less than $4 million dollars.”
But days after the launch, the former Deputy Governor of the BoG rebuffed claims that the interoperability contract awarded under the Mahama administration was overpriced.
At a press conference in Accra, Dr Asiama stressed that the new system launched by the Vice-President, is different in scope from the original contract; hence the disparity in the contract.
Interestingly, eventhough he conceded not having seen the scope of the current system launched by the Veep, the former deputy BoG Governor insisted it might not be as comprehensive as was envisaged under the original contract.
“I am out of office and I cannot say what is being done now but if I look at the details and scope of work in the original contract as stated here, it goes far beyond what was launched last week....It is like comparing antelope and an elephant…I am not sure the price will be same…” he said.
Contributing to a panel discussion on the subject on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, George Andah asked Dr. Asiama to "go back and get his facts right. He’s become a bit of a disgrace to himself and the profession…"
To him, the former BOG Governor is a big liar and is somehow used by his "paymasters" to "he’s confusing the good people of Ghana".
"He’s telling lies...He’s trying to confuse the good people of Ghana. He’s being used for something like this…He cannot be doing on his own”.

Please Andah, the language is too strong. Apologize to the Ghanaian populace but not the Deputy Governor.
George andah, we voted for change, but your words suggest u have changed to become the type of ppl we wanted to change from. u are a disgrace to your profession, George. seriously, a big disgrace! I am sure i am not the only one who will tell u that u have not done well at all by the choice of your words.politics has made your become rotten
Ghanaians voted for change. Andah, you were with OccupyGhana and was all against these kind of things. Why are u going into the gutters by the name calling??? And WE VOTED AGAINST these things. Why dont u fix the problems instead of fighting in the gutters
The evil that men do will always lead beside, before and after them. He knows what has been under his sleeve. He is indeed a disgrace to his profession. How can you follow politicians and do or say things which are contrary to your profession. As a PhD holder I expect that whatever you say should be base on facts and not assumptions. You do not know the details, what prevented you from further checks before going public? Who was chasing you? What is your interest? Please you have something to protect so do not allow these politicians to use you. Be wise!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think about this
Somebody tell mr Andah that we voted for NPP not for them to come and insult anyone but change the lives of Ghanaians for the better. But now everything is basaaaa, things are very tough. The other time i heard the vice president that medicines will be delivered by drones. Can i ask you, have you fixed the pot holes, street lights completed the abandoned hospital in my town, paid NHIS etc Please be serious ooo because 2020 is just around the Conner.Look at the price of fuel today hmmmm
George Andah is a DISGRACE to MP'S in Ghana
George Andah, please it is not appropriate to describe the former governor in that manner. This shows that you are not civil at the same time very arrogant. Just make your point and stop the insult. WHY??? Please lets do clean politics with ideas OK.
George Andah (Hon), with all humility, slow down with the calling of names. I believe there are more to it than meet the eye. You are new in politics and if you have been offered position at the expense of others, it does not mean that you have all the experience. Life has a way of teaching as we go through. Slow down.
If someone in the previous administration too 1 billion why not arrest them if it is true? The truth is that this whole system was to cost Government nothing, the amount seen in the budget were to be paid by investors who will be deducting the same charges as has been now and government would have paid nothing. Now George Andah and Bawumiah as usual have used government money of over 5 million to pay for something that should have been free. You see the deception of NPP. In 2021 one of the first people to be jailed will be this George Andah. This same guy and Bawumia came up with the GPS system and took millions which should have been free.
When it comes to these matters, George OccupyGhana Andah who lost his credibility long ago is illiterate to comment on. How can any sensible individual who calls himself a deputy minister equate projected cash flow of a period to cost of producing something. This is sheer illiteracy in the highest order.
