The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Amoako Kwasi Atta, has directed the Department of Urban Roads to start the procurement processes for reconstruction work to start on the Accra Central-Palladium Road.
“I have instructed the respective agency to ensure that all the procurement processes are completed by March for work to start,” the Minister said during a familiarisation tour of some the roads to be worked on in the city this year.
“Due to the importance of the road, it will be in two phases - the first will be the main rehabilitation, and the second part will be the dualization of the road.”
The 1.5-kilometer road lies within a trade hub, where major socio-economic activities, including trading in foodstuffs take place.
The area also houses big companies, such as Sikkens and utensils manufacturing ones.
The Minister said this was important to ease congestion and facilitate trade.
Mr Amoako Atta said the Government would undertake massive road infrastructure, as part of its priorities for the year.
This was because it recognised that the provision of good roads was one of the vehicles for speeding up the implementation of its various major projects and programmes.
These include the industrialisation and Ghana Beyond Aid Agendas, and the One village, One Dam project.
He said many feeder roads in the city would see a facelift.

THE ROAD BETWEEN TEMA OIL REFINERY AND KPONE IS SO BAD THAT ONE FEELS THE AREA IS A NEGLECTED ZONE. I CANN'T IMAGINE WHAT THE PEOPLE HAVE DONE TO DESERVE SUCH BAD TREATMENT OR NEGLECT. ANOTHER BAD ROAD IS THE ESTATE JUNCTION ROAD FROM DEVTRACO AREA AFTER COMMUNITY 25, TEMA , THROUGH TO THE LAGON TO KPONE. THE AREA HOUSES A LOT OF GOVERNMENT WORKERS WHO STRUGGLE ON DAILY BASIS ESPECIALLY DURING THE RAINY SEASON TO GET TO WORK. NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT THE FATE OF THE INHABITANTS THERE. SO SAD. TMA (TEMA METROPOLITANT ASSEMBLY IS REALLY SICK AND WILL NEED A CURATIVE DOCTOR TO LET THEM SIT UP AND WORK. JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA/TSENTSE (OKOE VANDERPUIJE) DID GOOD WORK FOR THE PEOPLE OF KORLE GONNO IN TERMS OF ROAD UPGRADE IN 2015/2016. NPP SHOULD EMULATE THE DUO.
