When President Akufo-Addo in 2017 appointed Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto to head the Ministry of Agriculture, little did he know that he had appointed a round peg for a round hole, who could be equal to the task of saving Ghana’s Agriculture from the realm of hopelessness it was pushed into by the previous administration.

The Chamber of Agribusiness-Ghana, has long recognized the achievement of this Agric whiz-kid, a proud holder of PhD in Agriculture acquired from the University of Cambridge, England.

This impressive educational background was put to test when President Akufo-Addo, in 2017 introduced one of his flagship programmes – Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ).

Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto was not found wanting and ably supervised the Programme, unaware that the Chamber of Agribusiness, Ghana, was watching him with an eagle eye.

Last Friday, January 18, 2019, the Chamber’s admiration of the Minister burst out into a flood of deserved recognition since the experts are the opinion that, the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, has yielded rewarding results.

A short but impressive ceremony was held on that day at the Minister’s office in Accra at which a citation was given to him.

“For revolution, they say comes in small forms. Planting for Food and Jobs is recognized as the most outstanding programme, given its importance in Ghana’s economy.

“The Chamber of Agribusiness, Ghana, therefore, awards PFJ for such euphoria, excitement and unparallel coverage and prospects in the industry.”
The Chamber of Agribusiness was not alone in recognizing the achievement of the Minister . A French weekly, “Agric News” related to Africa, also heaped an avalanche of commendations on Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto “for changing the direction of Agriculture in Ghana”, observing that “the Agricultural situation is improving considerably as Ghana becomes exporter in the Sub-region again. The results are linked to proper PFJ roll-out”.

The Chronicle, in all sincerity, adds its voice in commending Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto against the background of the saying that “a good tree climber deserves a push”.

The paper cherishes the hope that the Minister will not rest on his oars but work harder to feed the country and others outside our borders, while, at the same time, he leaves a name to be written in gold letters in the sand of time.

Congrats, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto.
