As schoolboys, David Ejim-McCubbin and Stephen Lansana were the best of friends.
Both were pupils at the Royal Docks Community School in Newham, East London, from the age of 11, and they were equally academically bright and in the top sets.
In the same class, they studied together, played football after school and were in and out of each other's homes at weekends.
