A 37-year-old woman has been apprehended by the police, for allegedly selling Akpeteshie, a locally brewed alcohol, laced with wee, to customers at Ofankor, near Achimota in Accra.
The Achimota Mile ‘7’ District Police Commander, Superintendent (Supt.) Theodore Hlormenu, who confirmed the arrest to The Ghanaian Times on Wednesday, said the suspect, Irene Nyamebuo, had been in the drinking bar business for some time now.
Supt. Hlormenu said Irene was arrested during a police swoop, following a tip-off about the woman’s activities.
..He said the police during a search at her James Town Drinking Spot, found galloons of the drink, popularly called ‘Lakka’, and large quantities of dried leaves.
During interrogation, she said a man known as Awaga, supplied the ‘wee’.
Supt. Hlormenu said Irene would be provisionally charged for the offence.
