A 29-Year Old Driver is languishing in the cells of the Kpone District Police Headquarters for attempting to steal a car at Community 25 in Tema.

The culprit, Abu Ganiyu Jawal alias Mr Cash, who resides at Atadeka, a suburb of Zenu in the Kpone-Katamanso District of Accra, was said to have snatched the unregistered Pontiac Vibe Saloon car estimated at GH₵31,000 but rammed it into a tailoring shop, damaging the shop and the car, before he was arrested.

A search conducted on him resulted in the discovery of a booklet of lotto papers cut into the size of money in a polythene bag in his pocket.

Chief Superintendent Isaac Kwadwo Asante, Commander of the Kpone District Police Headquarters, briefed DAILY GUIDE that the suspect saw an advert posted on the car and took the contact of the owner.

He said on December 31, 2015 the suspect called the owner and expressed interest in buying the car. He then made arrangements with the owner, who was out of town but called his brother to meet the suspect around Kpone Barrier on the Tema-Aflao highway.

According to him, the suspect duly came and requested to test the car to determine its condition before making payment.

He added that after testing and inspecting the car, the suspect then asked the complainant to call the owner of the car for them to bargain on the price.

The commander noted that while the complainant was calling his brother outside the car, he noticed that the suspect started the car and wanted to drive away.

The complainant quickly jumped into the car and the suspect gave him a blow on his chin as a struggle ensued between them. The suspect consequently rammed the car into a tailoring shop and both of them sustained injuries.

Chief Superintendent Asante further stated that the suspect, sensing danger, alighted from the car and took to his heels but the complainant quickly raised an alarm which attracted other people who helped in the search for the suspect, who was hiding under a culvert in the area.

He was arrested and a search conducted on him revealed eleven banker to banker booklets with papers cut into the size of money.

He was sent to the Kpone District Police Headquarters.
