The Kwesimintsim Police have arrested five suspected notorious thieves at Asakae in the Effia-Kwesimintsim District of the Western Region.

The police carried out the operation in collaboration with the neighbourhood Watch Dog Committee at Assakae, Race Course and Anaji on Sunday to stop robbery attacks on the residents.

A source told DAILY GUIDE that the suspects had been on the police wanted list for some time now due to their nefarious activities.

“They are notorious criminals that have been harassing residents in our jurisdiction, especially Anaji, Kwesimintsim and its environs,” the source indicated.

The names of the suspects were given as Joseph Ackah, alias Lil Wayne, 24; Frederick Ghartey 23; Kojo Baah, 21; Kwabena Anokye, 28 and Simon Aidoo, 21.

Some of the items retrieved from them included two plasma television sets, satellite decoders, Nikon camera and kit, techno tablets, kettles, a Sony digital camera, bread toaster, six clothes and two deodorants, among others.

The Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) indicated that on Sunday at about 1am, one Sulley Mohammed of Asakae Race Course, accompanied by one Sani Mohammed, a member of the Watch Dog Committee, went to the police station to make a report about his stolen items.

According to her, Sule Mohammed told the police that last Saturday at about 6pm, some people forcibly opened his door and stole his property.

The PRO indicated that the police visited the victim’s residence where Sule Mohammed identified his items.

She added that the suspects were in police custody assisting in police investigations.

The Kwesimintsim District Police Commander, Supt Peter Aidoo, pointed out that the suspects usually steal items when residents leave for work.

He revealed that the suspects used pliers, car jacks, pinch bar and other sharp instruments to break into the rooms of the victims to steal in broad daylight.

He indicated that one of the victims, a photographer, was attacked and robbed of his items by the suspects.

The police chief explained that on June 30, 2018 at about 10:30 pm, the victim was returning from an event at Akroma Plaza in Takoradi where he had offered photography services to a client.

“He was attacked by Simon Aidoo, Kwabena Anokye and four others, who are at large. They robbed him of his camera and other items, including his food in a pack,” Supt Aidoo added.
