The Tema Regional Police Command has launched investigations into circumstances under which a 42-year-old Rastaman allegedly stabbed one Mohammed Tijani to death.
Francis Appiah, the Rastaman, who is a mason, was said to have stabbed Mohammed to death after the deceased and his group attacked and assaulted him on three occasions.
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that the deceased and his group constantly attack the suspect over GH¢1 that he owed Mohammed.
The suspect was said to have paid an undisclosed amount of money he borrowed from the deceased, leaving a balance of GH¢1.00.
The suspect, after being initially attacked and injured by the deceased, vowed not to pay the balance.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Benefo Darkwah, spokesperson for the Tema Police Command, on December 29, 2018, the deceased attacked and assaulted the suspect and the matter was reported to the Community 8 Police Station in Tema for investigations.
The suspect was issued with a police medical report form to attend hospital for examination and treatment.
On the January 2, 2019, the deceased, together with five others, again attacked the suspect and hit his head with a stone.
The suspect exercised restraint and reported the matter to the police and was again issued with a medical form for treatment.
“The deceased, however, kept on escaping police arrest. On Thursday, January 3, 2019, around 8:30am, the deceased who was then holding a knife, allegedly attacked the suspect again but the suspect overpowered him, took the knife from him and stabbed him,” DSP Darkwah narrated.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Tema General Hospital pending autopsy.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested by the police to assist in investigation.
He reportedly told the police that he did not deliberately stab the deceased during the struggle but tried to defend himself.

How else should such a story be reported, and how else should a man defend himself, given all the attacks that were reported to the police.
The reporter of this story has played the role of prosecutor, witness, plaintiff and accused, all combined together, even before the matter has been investigated and put before the law court. What kind of biased reporting is this? I just don't know the kind of journalism we are practicing in this country. I just pray that both the accused and deceased will be served JUSTICE.
The suspect must be set free after investigation since if he had not done what the law termed as self-defense he would have been dead.Besides the deceased on several occasions attempted to stab him and I believe the law must temper justice with mercy and hold the deceased for the cause of his own death. The law must appreciate the suspect for his consistency in reporting the matter to the appropriate quarters which Police has clearly stated in its submission. Thanks. A CONCERNED CITIZEN.
I think the suspect should be rewarded for defending himself. the police shd kneel before him and worship him for doing what they could not do. how can you be tormenting someones life just because of GHC 1. its unfortunate he did in the processed but i think he deserves it and the suspect should be let go.
A case of the hunter being hunted. There should be no room or space for thugs and bullies in our society. Twice this poor fella has been subjected to severe and life threatening beatings and yet our efficient police service stood aloof and did nothing. If his account is true he should be processed for court and set free without delay. Next time when Tijani comes back to this world, he will learn that thuggery leads to nowhere but down under when victims decides to fight back.
Free the suspect. The deceased has tormented and and attacked him on many occasion which the police has testified to. Enough is enough,he could have killed the suspect with the knife. The best way to defend is to attack
The police should thank the suspect for doing their work for them.
I like the last statement; "He reportedly told the police that he did not deliberately stab the deceased during the struggle but tried to defend himself.". This sets the tone to free him for want of prosecution.
