One major problem facing Ghanas educational system is lack of adequate infrastructure. While some schools battle with poor classrooms, others do not even have access to classrooms, but sit under trees for lessons.
Ironically, the situation at Agona Nyakrom Anglican School is different. A completed six classroom block, including a library and an office which was constructed to replace a deplorable structure, is yet to be commissioned after barely a year of its completion.
As a result, the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Emmanuel Aidoo and his teachers have no option than to sit under trees as their office and classrooms, whiles running shift systems (morning and afternoon school) to manage the only 3 classrooms available to them. The situation has seriously affected attendance and has become a death trap to all the children and teachers.
This was revealed when our reporter, Maame Efua Koomson visited the school to find out how far things had gotten. The situation was even worse as the rains had displaced the headmaster and the teacher from sitting under the tree (office) with the number of people decreasing each passing day.
Mr. Emmanuel Aidoo lamented that even though the main building is completed, all efforts to get authorities to commission the rooms for lessons have proved futile.
However, the contractor in charge of the project said on Kokrokoo that the delay in the handing over is due to the fact that he has not received full payment.
Castle To Take Action
Following Peace FMs report on the state of the school, sources from the Castle indicates that the Presidency is not happy with the situation and swift action is being taken by government to ensure that the completed classrooms are commissioned for the use of the children and the teachers.
The plight of teachers and pupils of Agona Nyakrom was reported by Peace FM news in May this year with the hope that authorities will expedite action to inaugurate the new building to replace the old one.
