The GETFund is funding the construction of two-storey dormitory blocks for the Akuse Methodist Senior High Technical (AMEST) and the Manya Krobo Senior High School (MAKROSEC) in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region.
The two projects which are being constructed by GYJIDE and Sons Limited, are to be completed within 12 months.
At sod-cutting ceremonies at Akuse and New-Nuaso, near Odumase Krobo, the Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II, said he was grateful to the government for coming to the aid of the two institutions to ease congestion in them.
He indicated that every educational institution needed good infrastructure and serene atmosphere for effective teaching and learning and said “that is exactly what the government is doing to promote education in this area”.
“We need to put some of our resources into the education sector. If we fail to do that then we are doomed,” he stated.
Nene Sakite said educating the youth was beneficial to the development of the nation and pledged the support of the Manya Krobo Traditional Council for the development of the sector in the area.
Projects
The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Jacob Frederick Kwame Acolatse, enumerated educational projects the government had put up in the municipality and gave an assurance of the assembly’s preparedness to help reduce the infrastructural deficit in the education sector in the municipality.
“The government and the municipal assembly are committed to changing lives through education and other interventions,” Mr Acolatse added.
He urged the contractors to ensure that they did not only ensure quality work but also completed the project on schedule.
Appreciation
The headmaster of the Akuse Methodist SHS, Mr Frank Inkum Eyiah, on behalf of his colleague, expressed appreciation to the government for the timely intervention.
He, however, appealed for the construction of assembly/dining hall for the school which could also serve as an examination hall.
