Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who have not yet been placed in senior high schools (SHSs) and technical institutes (TIs) will from this week be given the opportunity to choose SHSs and TIs they want to attend.

They would have the opportunity to choose from a list of schools that would be displayed at the regional and district education offices as well as the headquarters of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The National Coordinator of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), Mr Kwasi Anokye, who made this known to the Junior Graphic, noted that circulars accompanied by the list of schools with vacancies available would be sent to the various education offices this week.

He said the affected candidates were those who were not able to compete with other candidates because of their low raw scores, adding that those whose BECE results were released only last week by the West African Examinations Council (BECE) could also choose from the schools that would be made available.

“We just got new data from WAEC on some candidates last week. Unfortunately, these candidates cannot be placed in their first choice schools because all the top schools are full,” he said, adding that: “these candidates were among those whose results were withheld by WAEC”.

“We want every candidate to be placed and this falls under the mopping up exercise,” he added.

A total of 437,958 BECE candidates have so far been placed in SHSs and TIs across the country.

The figure represents 95 per cent of the 456,398 candidates whose details were submitted to the CSSPS by WAEC.
