Millicent Gyimah Boateng was the overall best student at the Islamic University College Ghana (IUCG) graduation ceremony held last Saturday at the university’s campus in Accra.

The Communications Studies graduate made 3.78 final grade average point to emerge the overall best student at IUCG’s 14th graduation/congregation and 19th matriculation ceremony.

She went home with a cash prize of GH₵1,000, a plaque and a citation for her efforts.

In an address, President of IUCG, Dr. Moshen Maarefi, commended government’s ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ policy, which he noted, will go a long way to enhancing the country’s growth.

He however, called for particular attention to be given to developing the human resource of the country rather than focusing all the attention on physical and natural resources.

“I wish in fact, to emphasise that any change must start with developing the human resource through education to the highest level, which is tertiary education,” he suggested.

Dr. Maarefi also praised the Free SHS policy introduced by President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government, saying it is a great step towards the development of the country.

The chairman of the school’s council, Dr. Abdolmajid, expressed gratitude to the government and the people of Ghana for the support extended to the institution since its establishment.

He called for more assistance from the government for a smooth running of the university.

A total of 295 students graduated, with 28 passing out with first class honours.

Issah Ruhaina won the best student in Business Administration while Sama-Madjalado Aziz Mohammed and Mohammed Siisu Oldman won best students in Religious Studies and Taxation respectively.
