Media In Partnership For Development (MIPD) in collaboration with Faculty Of Psychiatry, College of Physicians and Surgeons, yesterday launched the first ever Psycho-Film System (Psychofis)in Accra in support of mental health.
Mr Baba Jamal, a Deputy Minister for Information who was impressed with the brain behind Psychofis, which is in support of mental health, said government is prepared to collaborate with psychofis to enhance prevention and care for mental disorders using modern audio-visual interventions.
The Deputy Minister advised the media to give equal attention to other areas of reporting as it gives to political issue as such areas are equally important to national development
The Chief Psychiatrist, Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Doctor Akwasi Osei who chaired the occasion, said with the limited number of experts in the field of psychiatry and clinical psychology, the psycho-film system will help expand the scope of practitioners.
According to him, audio-visuals have a role to play in mental health delivery, especially, in a situation where there are inadequate psychological or psychiatriic experts in the field.
Mr Ben Imoro, Executive Director of MIPD and the brain behind Psychofis, explained Psychofis as a method of using audio- visual medium to enhance the work of Psychologists or Psychiatrist and allied experts.
Mr Imoro said the major objective of psychofis is to remove or at least reduce the stigma associated with mental disorder.
