Nestlé Nido®, as part of its commitment to growth and wellbeing of children in Ghana, climaxed its Nido® Nutrition Day Program at the Legon Presec Basic School to provide over 400 mothers and caregivers nutrition education for optimal growth of their children.

The Nido® Nutrition Day Program, which is in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES), ultimately seeks to provide mothers and caregivers knowledge on the importance of good nutrition through dramatization, talk and games.

According to Diana Kita Kejuo, Category Manager for Dairy, “At Nestlé, we believe in sharing Nutrition Knowledge to help improve the wellbeing of individuals and families, especially Children who in most cases suffer from undernutrition as a result of lack of key micronutrients in their daily food intake. The Nido® Nutrition Day Program is one way we are fulfilling our ambition to help 50 million children lead healthier lives by 2030”.

In 2017, the educational campaign reached over 6,000 mothers and caregivers in selected communities.

Rosemond Tetteh is a 39 year old Teacher and a mother of 3 who participated and emerged overall winner of a nutrition quiz conducted at the Nido® Nutrition Day event at Legon Presec Basic School. Expressing her excitement, Mrs. Tetteh said, “The Nido® Nutrition Day Program has benefited me a lot by highlighting the importance of breakfast for my children. This will guide me in making healthier food choices to help my children grow and stay healthy”.

On her side, Mrs. Nana Esi Inkoom, Coordinator for National School Health Education Program, Ghana Education Service, “If children are given the right foundation with the right food choices, they will grow with it and stay healthy. The partnership between Nestlé and the GES is very impactful in helping mothers gain nutrition knowledge to help care for their children. We will continue to collaborate with Nestlé to help mothers and care givers make healthier choices for their children”.

Nido Nutrition Day is implemented under the supervision of the School Health Education Programme (SHEP) in Basic Schools and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 which focuses on Good Health and Wellbeing. Nido® Nutrition Day is under the Nestlé for Healthier Kids program which aims at raising nutrition and health knowledge and promoting physical activity among school-age children.
