President John Evans Atta Mills has cut the sod for the construction of the first five kilometres of the 14 kilometre Ada Sea Defence Project at a cost of 60 million Euros.
The government is negotiating for 120 million Euros for the remaining stretch of the shoreline.
President Mills said the people of Ada deserve protection against the devastating sea waves which people have endured for a very long time.
President Mills assured the contractors of the governments support in executing the project.
The Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alban Bagbin, said the government is using a technology known as Amour rock. Apart from protecting the shoreline, this technology will also ensure the reclamation of the land.
Mr Bagbin said Ada has lost a lot of cultural heritage and tourist sites to the sea over the years.
