Upper West Region Minister-designate Bede A. Ziedeng says armed robbery is the major security challenge of the border Region.
According to him, the spate of robbery is mostly recorded along the major trunk roads in the Region.
Speaking during his vetting on Wednesday, the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) General Secretary admitted security among the people is quite peaceful.
It is true that the security situation in terms of the region is quite peaceful, he said.
If you talk about security in terms of relationship between various groups and various sections of the society, I think it is relatively very peaceful, he added.
What we have as a security challenge in the Upper West Region is the spate of armed robbery which is basically along the major trunk roads.
Mr Ziedeng, therefore, revealed he will appeal to the Ministry of Defence to set up a military base if he is approved.
My humble appeal is that the Minister for Defence should consider, rather than having just a detachment from the air force, a permanent military station to take care of security in the Region.
