The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has completed a 161-kilovolt (KV) substation at Mim in the Asunafo North Municipality in the Brong Ahafo Region to improve upon power supply to the area.
Funded by a loan facility from Eximbank, the $18.8 million project is expected to help connect some 500 communities in the Brong Ahafo and Western regions.
Prior to the building of the substation, power was supplied from Sunyani through a 63-kilometre transmission line to Mim.
An official said capacitor banks had been installed at the Mim substation to improve on quality and security of supply and improve voltage.
The Head of Public Relations of GRIDCo, Mr Albert Kwesi Quainoo, said the substation would support the governments rural electrification project in the two regions.
Already, distribution poles have been erected in most communities on the Sunyani-Mim corridor to extend power to the people in the area.
