The Minister of Tourism, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has announced plans to train local pilots to steer paragliding activities at Kwahu in the Eastern Region and other identified areas in the country.
That, she said, formed part of efforts to commercialise paragliding which has become a potential tourist attraction for Ghanaians and others from neighbouring countries.
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said the initiative forms part of efforts to stimulate investment interests in Kwahu and other parts of the country and to position Ghana as a hub of tourism in West Africa.
She said that when she officially opened the 10th Kwahu Paragliding Festival at Atibie in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region.
The festival attracted a good number of foreigners from different parts of the world as well as local patrons.
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said paragliding had become an integral part of the calendar of activities of the tourism sector of the country, adding that there was the need to harness its potential for the stimulation of domestic tourism and attracting more foreign tourists.
She also said that she had instructed the tourism office to collaborate with the Business Advisory Centre of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) to develop and market artifacts as part of moves to enhance job creation in the Kwahu South District.
Meanwhile, the minister has officially commissioned an office for the Kwahu South Tourism Authority within the premises of the Kwahu South District Assembly.
