As today marks World Press Freedom Day, the Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has advised journalist not to trumpet any questionable news posted on the internet by sources who cannot be trusted.
Speaking on Peace FM, the minister stated that it was gradually becoming a norm for some journalist to pick and publish certain news without taking the pain to verify the content of the news.
Dr Edward Omane Boamah, further revealed that government does not control the internet in Ghana because it respects all principles governing the operation of the internet and is supporting the “Internet Communities to actively participate in discussion relating to the “security” of the internet.
However, he warned that people who use the internet for negative things would always be smoked out and made to face the law. “Few months ago, a gentle was sentenced to prison for posting nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend on cyber space”, he added.
