A suspected armed robber accidentally shot and killed his colleague instantly during a robbery at Ashaiman Official Town on Monday night.
The incident happened when the two unidentified armed men wielding a sub machine gun (SMG) and a locally manufactured pistol attacked a mobile money operator in his shop.
Confirming the incident to The Ghanaian Times, the Ashaiman District Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Herbert Sosu, said the shooting took place while the suspects were ransacking the shop.
He said one of the suspects fired a warning shot with his locally-manufactured pistol, but the shot hit the head of his colleague, killing him on the spot.
ASP Sosu said sensing danger the other robber took to his heels with an unspecified amount of airtime credit cards and cash.
He said the police found an SMG rifle, five rounds of ammunition, a dagger, a face mask and six spoilt cell phones, six sim cards,
GH¢198.00 and a quantity of airtime credit cards on the deceased.
The Ashaiman District Crime Officer said the body has seen been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra for autopsy.
