Joy News has intercepted an investigative report which alleges that former Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority Dr George Crentsil received a $1.2million kickback from a contractor.
Lemet Construction Company is said to have worked on a new block of the Standards Authority Training School at a cost in excess of GHC15 million.
The contractor did not state why he gave out the money but the report indicates Dr. Crentsil admitted receiving the cash.
According to the report submitted by the board of directors of the Ghana Standards Authority to the then Trade Minister Dr Ekwow Spio Gabrah, Dr George Crentsil took $1 million from the contractor working on the GSA training school on one occasion.
On another occasion, he took $200,000.
A part of the report reads, “The Executive Director admitted taking money from the contractor but refused to state how much, stating it was a sensitive matter.”
On July 2012, the Ghana Standards Authority awarded the GHc15.2 million contract to Lemet Construction Company to build a new training school and hostel facility for the Ghana Standards Authority in Accra.
Sources at the Authority say the contractor, Johnson Teye, failed to meet the deadline for completion of the project due to lack of funds. The board raised questions about the delay.
Trade Minister at the time Dr Spio Gabrah ordered an investigation into the contract based on an anonymous letter from a management member of the Authority.
Dr Gabrah would not go on record but tells Joy News “After I received the first anonymous letter, I called the executive director of Ghana Standards Board and quizzed him on the complaints. But, when I received the second letter, I directed the board to investigate the matter. I, however, wasn’t able to take action because the report was submitted when I was leaving office.”
The Board Chairman of the Authority Amadu Sorogho also would not go on record but agreed to be quoted.
“A committee was set up under at the instance of an authority. We finished our work, as the chairman, we read it; we confronted people that we needed to confront and we sent it with a covering letter to the appropriate authority with the recommendations,” he said.
When Joy News contacted the former Executive Director of Standards Authority, he declined to comment.
The report revealed that the contractor provided materials and personnel to complete a three-bedroom storey building for Dr. Crentsil at East Legon, a suburb of Accra.
The former Executive Director, however, denied the claim.
He also denied he owns a hospital at East Legon as revealed in the investigations

Will anything good and beneficial to our nation come out of this? I doubt. We're not serious as a nation.
These are some of the sources of money for the NDC HQ building and John Fronfuo Mahama. The man said the matter is sensitive so he will not comment but he has received the money. The govt must sell the NDC headquarters building and retrieve our money from them.
He is not the only crook politican in Ghana. A lot more even holding positions as the media exposes him. Look how those crooks both in NPP & NDC parties attended woyome mom's funeral.
GLORIA AKUFFO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR.NANA ADDO HAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED ME.I VOTED FOR YOU TO JAIL CORRUPT OFFICIALS OF NDC,YOU ARE IN POWER AND LOOK AT WHAT YOU ARE DOING.THE NDC EVEN BEHAVE AS IF THEY ARE STILL IN POWER.DISAPPOINTMENT.
I think he took the money on behalf of John Dramani Mahama
NDC officials are only ***barred word*** at stealing - they use 'buga buga' but NPP ***barred word*** are very clever - they use the 'pen' and cover their tracks. Just watch out if Nana Addo will go back to Kuffour's time to investigate the clever ***barred word*** of the time.
I am trying very hard to find a single sector under the NDC administration that is clean of corruption........

WHILE YOU STRUGGLE TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR FAMILY WITH YOUR SALARY THESE ONES DRIVE PASS YOU IN BIG CARS AND SPEAK BIG ENGLISH AND LEAVE IN THE PLUSH EAST LEGON ENVIRONS AND MAKE YOU COME ACROSS AS THE LAZY ONE. GOD SPEAK FOR THE POOR MAN OOOH FOR HOW LONG CAN THE WICKED AND THE GREEDY PREVAIL AGAINST THE POOR. HMMM
Oh Uncle Joojo Crentsil....... I am saddened by the turn of events. I thought you were a man of integrity only for you to turn out to be one of the Greedy Bastards? Oh my God. I remember before 2008 elections you always came to us saying that if Prof. Mills does not win the elections, there will be bloodshed in Ghana and that NPP were ***barred word*** and stealing our money. I remember also that after NDC won in 2008, you came to us saying you were a member of the transitional team. We went to the govt website secretly and did not find your name. When you were appointed CEO of the Standards Authority we were all happy for you and you promised us of very good work with integrity. Today you are in the news for the wrong reasons because you fought for Prof. Mills and NDC to come to power so you can join the ***barred word*** brigade. You have proven to us that we can never trust any NDC member because you people lack basic integrity. Anyway, when you are sent into the cooler, you will be there alone. God be with you.
Too much greed and selfishness and incompetence. Amadu Sorogho was also Board Chair at Fire Service!!!! how and why? are they the only people who can serve Ghana? a revolution is needed
