Lecturers of the various colleges of Education have been on strike for almost two months now over market premium.
The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) is also demanding book and research allowance on the same scale with their colleagues in the universities since they have also been converted.
Speaking in an interview with sit-in host of Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', Nana Yaw Kesse, Wednesday, Ebenezer Arthur Bonney, Central and Western Regional Chairman of CETAG insisted that the lecturers will not back down on their demands.
He said "after conversion into tertiary status by an act of parliament, every lecturer was entitled to all the benefits received by our colleagues in the universities but that is not the case and we feel we are not being treated fairly"
On the otherhand, government has described their action as 'bad faith' and 'illegal'.
Ekwow Vincent Assafuah, PRO of the Ministry of Education speaking on the same platform, said the institutions are likely to be closed down if the lecturers still refuse to go back to work.
According to him, "they are being unreasonable in their demands and again they are acting in bad faith. There has been a massive commitment on the party of government to resolve this issue"
He further urged the tutors to return to the negotiation table for their concerns to be addressed "because if care is not taken, there will be imminent closure of the school which will not inure to the benefit of anybody. The media, students and others should call on CETAG to be reasonable in their demands because we cannot pay you in a vacuum"

That is why it is better to sack saboteurs. There are ndc elements who want to make the government unpopular. The plan will never work. It is better they are all sacked to employ new teachers. This case started in ndc time, why did these teachers not demonstrate in ndc,s time? It is a prophecy Ghanaians who are the real jews of the world have been delivered from slavery and nobody can change this. NDC will soon be a forgotten story because they took us to be enslaved by the IMF and world bank and destroyed our lands and rivers. Mother Ghana and the Gods of the land are against Ndc they will never never come to govern the country again It won't happen. The days of the party are numbered. The party will soon vanish from the political system like CPP.
Do they even use the money for what they are saying? they use the money to buy cement and sand to start building their own houses instead of the so called research they are supposed to do. Black Africans are damn f000*00ls else what is the sense in this strike? because others got them and used the money to build houses they also need to get the same,my question is are they the same as the lecturers of the university,if so then why didn't they go to teach in the university instead of college? they are being unreasonable and I think the school must be closed down for them to sit home and new lecturers employed ! ndc are so desperate that they want to capitalize on unnecessary things hoping that will work for them but it won't work! nothing will work for the ndc until they sit down to identify their folly and rectify but rushing for power after this humiliating defeat unprecedented in Ghana is sickening!
Since when have these colleges converted into universities and the teachers wanting to be in the same bracket with older universities. How many research books have they produced to qualify them for the status they want to be? Strike actions are becoming acceptable norm in the country of late. Every government institute want to be on strike to back any demand. Even people whose judgement to get money in a quick way embark on strike action wanting the government to pay them back whereas the government has no hand in their decision when their decision fails them. Just look at this DKM and Menzgold issues. Sometime the government has to let the people know where they stand forgetting about 2020. If the right things are done, forget it, people who know what is right will decide on your behalf. Let them know that it is enough now.
I think the Government rushed in its decision to upgrade the colleges of education to that status. The Government must be sober enough to heed to the demands and also start firing the PRO and the Minister of Education. They are not helping matters at all. They are rather acting in bad faith. To add more injury to their wounds, they have not paid the teachers for the month of November. I tell you the Government has shot itself in the foot.
Is this government will to win power again in 2020? I don't think so .if he does he would have sack this so call ministers of education and their PRo .they are not being reasonable at all.
govt did same to SHS trs when it introduced this double track system. we have not seen strike cos CHASS were told to take 30% of motivation fees. we don't know how much was given to the leaders of GNAT, GNAGRAT and other tr unions to remain quiet. ordinary tr is short changed and no one is speaking on his or her behalf.
That small boy called spoke person for the ministry doesn't respect. He must be warn because teachers are suffering
Government re in hurry to implement policies such as licence exams and forcing the newly trained teachers to undergoe mandatory national service but they don't want to satisfy the other party that's cetag. Super incompetent government
I think the govt must also be reasonable with the lecturers. This govt is not treating Colleges of Education well. Both students and lectures issues are not prioritised.
Who is being unreasonable here? Is Govt not bullying the teachers? Every institution is being converted to university, treat the lecturers and the workers as "university employees and the agitation will end, period!
