The Chairman of the National Farmers Awards Winners, Mr Davies Narh Korboe has appealed to government to pay more attention to commercial farming in all policies and also support smallholder farmers to deal with the country’s food security problems.

This, he said will enable the country to achieve the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda and also enable commercial farmers to focus on industrialisation to help boost the country's economy.

Speaking to Graphic Online at the durbar grounds of the 34th National Farmers' Day celebration at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on the theme ‘Agriculture: Moving Ghana Beyond Aid”, Mr. Korboe intimated that given the needed support particularly feed for the poultry industry, that sector alone could transform the country from depending on aid to international trade thereby boosting the country‘s economy.

“Agriculture is the game changer, hence the need for us to use agriculture to move Ghana to the next level. Apart from God and the air that we breath, the next most important thing is food”.

One of the awardees from the cocoa sector at Nkrankwanta in the Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Yaw Bediako commended the organisers for the orderly manner the programme is being organised so far and the warm reception accorded the award winners.

He encouraged the youth not to shy away from farming because it is a lucrative venture.

About 91 farmers and fishers are expected to receive various awards with the overall national best farmer receiving the ultimate prize of $100,000.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is gracing the occasion.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Fugu reports that all is set for this year's National Farmers Day celebration at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale today.

The theme for the celebration is “Agriculture: Moving Ghana Beyond Aid,".

About 91 farmers and fishers from all the ten regions of Ghana are to pick various awards.
