The Minister of Communications, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said the controversial StartTimes deal would not affect Ghana’s sovereignty.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen Thursday, the minister said allegation that the ministry had sold off Ghana’s platform was untrue.
Mrs Ursula Owusu has come under attacks concerning the deal, which is being hotly challenged by the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA).
According to GIBA, StarTimes has already set up apay-TV in Ghana, therefore, allowing them to handle the entire DTT infrastructure would threaten Ghana’s security and independence.
According to her, the DTT platform was fully owned by the government of Ghana, even under the StarTimes deal.
She also pointed out that it would be managed by a fully-owned Ghanaian company.
“The Ghanaian company would invite whichever institution or individuals have the technical and managerial competencies it requires for effective operations” she said.
She said the “National Communications Authority and the Ghana Revenue Authority were responsible for managing the DTT Platforms.
“My work is done on it after building the Platform,” she said.
