Tension is mounting at Nkudwua, a farming community in the Sekyere Central District, following the invasion of Fulani herdsmen and their cattle.

The Fulani herdsmen are said to be accompanied by their families and hundreds of animals, destroying farm crops, water bodies and raping women in the area.

The rising tension on Saturday, compelled Mr Kwadwo Banahene Bediako, District Chief Executive for the area to rush to the community to calm down tempers.

The community members told the DCE that they were ready to protect themselves if immediate efforts were not made to drive the intruders away from the community and its environments.

“We shall not allow the invaders to intimidate us in our own community. We are ready to protect ourselves”, the community members, who were mostly farmers told the DCE.

According to them, the destruction of their farms and other criminal activities caused by the herdsmen and their cattle was alarming and that, they would not allow them to continue to put their lives and property in danger.

Mr Bediako on his part told the people to exercise restraint and not to take the law into their own hands in dealing with the problem.

He however, blamed some members of the community, who because of selfishness invited the herdsmen to the area.

Mr Bediako assured the farmers that the District Security Council would soon assess the situation and discuss the way forward.
