The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has come up with its road map to revolutionise development projects in the twin-city.

The assembly has also completed its spatial development framework, structure and spatial plans for all sub metros that contained all the key natural resources and economic opportunities for investment in the city.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Kobina Kurentsir Sam, also called K.K. Sam, disclosed this at a media briefing during the celebration of the STMA’s Development Control Week yesterday.

The maiden celebration is to create awareness on land development that affects every fabric of the people’s lives.

Some of the activities earmarked for the programme include street procession, tree planting along some major roads, seminar at Sekondi Youth Centre, Spatial Planning Committee meeting, fun games, among others.

He explained that development control was about city planning and regulation of land use to the benefit of the people.

He added that with effective development control, STMA could transform the look of the metropolis. He then stressed that the spatial plans of the assembly would become more meaningful when the people witness the true reflection on the ground.

“It is in the light of this that the STMA has commissioned building and planning inspectors to proactively handle issues on land use before they become nuisance”, he added.

K.K. Sam pointed out that the people should not equate land ownership to land use and development rights.

“A person could own a piece of land with genuine document covering it. But the development of that land requires the express permission of the statutory planning authority.

“This is to bring about cohesion and compatibility in all activities so as to make the assembly function at its optimum”, he added.
