The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, has expressed grave concerns about chieftaincy disputes in the country.
He said chieftaincy disputes were derailing accelerated development of the country and called for a quick resolution of such disputes.
The Okyenhene who doubles as President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs was reacting to issues raised by the chiefs of Asuom during his visit to the area as part of his tour of the Akyem areas.
He said that the major cause of chieftaincy disputes in most parts of the country had been the attempt by people to force their way to become chiefs when they are not the rightful occupants. He said the most painful aspect is “when you are from a royal home and a person outside the family gets in to fight over a stool.”
He said honest consensus building is key in maintaining peace and stability in the chieftaincy institution.
