President of The Church of the Living God, Ghana, Apostle Samuel Neequaye Sasraku has bemoaned the drift in Christianity in Ghana as the doctrines and teachings of Christ are adulterated.

According to him, in spite of statistical claim of 70 percent of Ghana’s population being Christians, the prisons and reformatories are full of people claiming to be Christians; explaining that true doctrine is not being taught in churches.

Speaking to Peacefmonline.com during the church float and fun games to mark the church’s 50th anniversary on the principal street of Chorkor and its environs, Apostle Sasraku averred it is time to reverse what he described as syncretic churches by not mixing Christian doctrines with other teachings like Hinduism, Buddhism and traditional worship.

“For these reasons, you see that the people do not manifest the fruits that Christ requires, so we teach people to hold-fast to Christian doctrines and to be true to the teachings of the Bible. We don’t want to learn or take some practises from other people and then follow other teachings that do not have Bible bases. Whatever we teach, whatever we practise, we want to support it with biblical practises,” he stated.

Touching of the theme for the 50th anniversary “Raising Loyal Christian Disciple”, the President of the church said though many claim to be Christians, they are not loyal disciples who have gone through the disciplines that Christ requires to follow His teachings and doctrines.

“This is our mission but you see it is not easy because generally people want quick and instant results but that is not what God says. Strictly speaking, God wants us to be people who are Christ-like and this is a gradual process; you learn, you practise and then with time, you become like Christ through the Holy Spirit. This is what people don’t want to go; people want to work like magicians, assuring people with instant results should they offer them money. Christ Himself does not do that. We teach out to adhere to what Christ requires because, in the long run, we are going to be accountable to God and this is why we want raise loyal Christian disciples,” he mentioned.

Advising the youth of this country, Apostle Neequaye Sasraku told Ghanaian youths to abstain from any drug which will eventually destroy the body as their bodies are the temple of God; urging them to remain focus on the things which will improve their lives.

He however said it has not been easy for the church as they mark 50 years; adding that the church started vibrantly and it went on well for a long time until the challenges started to crop in.

He mentioned that there were divisions in the church based on doctrines, moral issues and based on things which someone would think could not have caused those problems for the church.

“So for a long time we were in a situation where there were no progress and no backward movement. That went on for over 20 years, and then the new crop of people came in, now, with a new vision to regenerate the church”.

The regeneration of the church he said, they are looking at the foundations to ascertain the way forward for the church and then map up plan and strategy to manifest the plan regeneration that they have in mind as they have been doing for the past 10 years.

Listing some of the achievements of the church, Apostle Sasraku said they have been able to pay fully last year for the land  on which the church building reside as all required documents have been given to the church.

“We have acquired another plot of land adjacent to this building with a wooden structure on and we have been able to retire and pay all the gratuities of our retired Apostles and we have been regular in paying their pensions for the past 3 years.

“We have managed to revamp the youth ministry and the children ministry because we know that these are the future members of the church. So vigorously we have gotten teachers and personnel who understand young people and young adult and even children, managing these ministries.

“We are thinking that the 50 years that has passed had been a time for us which we are building stronger foundations. We know that every stronger building started with a strong foundation. We are poised after this 50 years anniversary to move and move fast in the name of God.

“We have plans for career counsellors to come and talk to the youth to help them shape their future. We have plan also to help them go into areas where they think they belong to. We are not only interested in academic work but we have trainers who will help develop the skills and the attitudes that will help to shape them,” he elaborated.
