As part of activities marking this year’s World Environment Day, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine will undertake tree planting exercise in and around its host communities, to create awareness on the importance of trees.

Under the theme, “Join the race to make the world a better place” This year’s  World Environment Day carries a clear message and asks everyone to get involved in making the world a better place to live in.

Adding his voice to call for promoting the culture of tree planting in our communities,   Senior Manager- Health Safety and Environment of the Mine, Samuel Koffie, affirms that planting trees makes a difference since trees reduce the effects of greenhouse emissions and conteracts global warming among others. He notes that apart from the aesthetic beauty trees offers, they also act as windbreaks  and help protect our buildings.

“Tress add economic value to the communities and the country as a whole. Although tree planting seems like a menial task, every tree planted makes a difference and saves lives so all should endeavour to inculcate the habit of planting trees” he added.

Given the importance of trees, more trees needs to be planted and nurtured to save more lives since every person who plants a tree makes a difference. Iduapriem Mine will continue to place a high value on tree planting and will work together with our communities to ensure that tree planting is integrated into our everyday life.
