The Police at Legon in an operation to clamp down on armed robbers, on Friday impounded 18 motorbikes in that suburb of Accra.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Richmond Bonsu, Legon District Police Commander, told GNA that the exercise was aimed at arresting armed robbers suspected to be using motorbikes with fake registration numbers.
He said the Police had information that armed robbers with machetes and other deadly weapons were attacking innocent victims and robbing them of their possessions including lap-tops computers, jewellery and money.
ASP Bonsu said the registration numbers of the impounded motorbikes would be sent to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority to verify the validity of the numbers and owners of motorbikes with fake numbers would be prosecuted.
He said the Police would flush out criminals from Legon to enable the residents live in peace.
