The management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) on Monday said it would shut-down the Kpong Treatment Plant from Wednesday July 13, to enable the company engineers repair a major leakage on its transmission line.
A statement issued in Accra said there had been a major leakage
on the main 63 inches fibre glass transmission line that transports
raw water from the raw water intake to the treatment plant at Kpong. As a result, the raw water volumes abstracted for production has drastically reduced and the leakage is causing serious damage to the
main Tema-Akosombo trunk road,ďż˝ it said.
The statement said in view of this, the Eastern and Central parts of Accra and Tema Metropolis would be without water for the period of the repair works.
Affected areas include, Tema, Michel Camp, Kpong, Prampram, Tema Industrial Area, Ashaiman and Kpone. The rest are, Adenta, Madina, La, Teshie, Lashibi, Spintex, Baatsonaa, Cantonments, Labone, Osu, Osu Kuku Hill, Nima, Maamobi, Pig Farm, Achimota and surrounding areas. Management of GWCL assures the general public its engineers will work assiduously to enable the repair work to be completed on schedule. While apologising for the inconveniences that might occur, consumers are advised to store water for the period, the statement said.
