A man has been jailed 10 years after telling the court that he smokes marijuana to keep him strong because his work as a security man requires a lot of energy.
The man, Peter Afatoge, 22, was convicted on his own plea by an Accra Circuit Court on Thursday. He was charged with illegal possession of narcotic drug. Afatoge was arrested by the Amasaman police with five boxes of Indian hemp.
The Amasaman District Police Commander, Superintendent Kwadwo Asante, who gave the facts said Afatoge told the police on his arrest that his work required a lot of energy so he smoked Indian hemp to keep him strong. Supt Asante said following a tip off, the police patrol team arrested Afatoge at Pokuase, near Amasaman in possession of Indian hemp and a pair of scissors that he used to cut the drug into pieces and package it for sale.
