The Tamale metropolis has received the 2010 award as the �cleanest city� in Ghana. City authorities received the award from Ghana�s leading waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana.
This was at a colourful durbar code named �Community Based Sanitation Durbar� held at the forecourt of the Tamale Chief�s palace.
The development formed part of the company�s intension to keep Ghana clean at all cost. Oscar Provencal, Public Relations Officer of Zoomlion Ghana commended residents for keeping their surroundings clean.
Seeing that it is the best means of eradicating malaria, cholera and diarrhea in the area, he tasked parents to educate their children on the importance of personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.
He cautioned them against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and open defecation. �Such acts are not only an affront to the religious doctrines but offends our tradition and customs,� he emphasised.
The Chief of Tamale, Naa Dakpema Mahamadu Dawuni Alhassan, called on his subjects to adopt best environmental practices that will promote their health.
He appreciated Zoomlion Ghana�s effort in the areas of job creation and environmental cleanliness. Naa Dawuni thus entreated all stakeholders to collaborate effectively with Zoomlion Ghana to manage the area�s waste.
