The National Identification Authority (NIA) says it has been moved by funding constraints to suspend the mass distribution exercise of Ghana Cards across the country.
According to the Authority, its current financial status cannot support the exercise which it describes as capital intensive.
It is however trying other innovative means to distribute the cards for the time being. Speaking to XYZ News, Head of Public Affairs at the NIA, Bertha Dzeble said the authority is doing all it can to source funds to continue the exercise.
She expressed hope that the situation will improve for the NIA to continue with the mass distribution exercise.
