Production level of yam, a very important food crop and income source for millions of producers, processors and consumers in West Africa is declining.
Since 2000, the rate of annual increases in the food crop has remained stagnant as compared to earlier dramatic increases.
It has therefore been predicted that the decrease could be catastrophic if urgent steps are not taken to salvage the situation.
These issues came to light at a workshop organised by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture,(IITA), in Accra.
