A downpour which occurred in Accra in the early hours of Monday, ripped the roof of the tower section of the Medical block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
The rain, which began around 1:00a.m., mainly affected the second and third floors of the block and destroyed its glass windowsills.
However, the Daily Graphic has learnt that the destruction had not affected healthcare delivery at the premier hospital as both healthcare providers and patients were going about their normal activities.
Re-roofing
According to the Head of the Public Relations unit of the hospital, Mr Mustapha Salifu, work on re-roofing of the facility had begun even though the cost of damage was yet to be determined.
“While assessing the cost of the damage, we have also started work to re-roof the affected area,” he said.
Mr Salifu assured patients and patrons of the hospital that the incident had not in anyway disrupted services being provided to patients in the facility.
He stated that there were no casualties involved in the incident and added that the renal section of the tower, where patients on dialysis are taken care of, was also not affected.
“The renal unit which is also within the Tower section has not been affected and we will continue to provide service to renal patients,” Mr Salifu further assured.
