It has emerged that the woman who set her rival ablaze at Akyem Kusi, near Akwatia, and was subsequently lynched by a mob is alive.
Contrary to information given by the police that she died from the beatings, the woman, Elizabeth Bodi, survived and is said to be currently responding to treatment at the St Dominic Hospital at Akwatia in the Eastern Region.
She was said to have set ablaze, Monica Owusu, her rival, after pouring petrol on her while she was asleep, but while attempting to flee the scene, a mob caught and beat her.
The Eastern Regional Police Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Faakye Kumi, told The Ghanaian Times yesterday that Elizabeth survived the mob attack and was responding to treatment.
He said no evidence had been found against the man a galamsey operator whom they fought over, so he could not be arrested, although he indicated that the man might later be invited to assist in the police investigations.
