James Kwabena Bomfeh, a member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has filed a writ at the Supreme Court challenging government’s decision to build a national cathedral.
In the writ, dated March 10, Mr Bomfeh, also known as Kabila, indicated he was seeking “a declaration that the decision of the Government of Ghana to purposely endorse, assist, aid, partly sponsor, and/or support the construction of a National Cathedral near the State House of Ghana, for Christian interdenominational church services amounts to an excessive entanglement of the Republic of Ghana and religion and therefore unconstitutional”.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of the chapel to mark the 60th Anniversary of the country.
The President cut the sod on the morning of the 60th Independence Day at the National Scholarship Secretariat in Accra but Mr Bomfeh does not believe it is the place of government to undertake such projects.
For him, government has no business to meddle in religious affairs in such manner and also wants the Hajj Board, constituted by government, to be declared illegal.
He has, therefore, sought “a declaration that the setting up of a Hajj Board by the Government of the Republic of Ghana for the purpose of coordinating, supporting and/or aiding Ghanaian Muslims to embark on a religious pilgrimage to Mecca…” is unconstitutional.

Good move Kabila; I support you. We will also need a national non-denominational shrine if the Christian cathedral passes. Weather we like it or not, not all Ghanaians are Christians and we also voted for you, Nana!!!!!
When Tobias (kwesi Pratt) spoke against it I was looking for Sambalat now I have found it in kabila But then Nehemiah built the wall.
I feel sorry for you kabila, it pains me to have listened to your submissions on radio in the past. I never knew that you are such a nation wrecker. God change your bad ways
After taking money from the NDC and your flag - bearer launching blistering attacks against Nana is this your latest agenda? You've already failed .We Need God in our lives;that is not to say we will be solving all the problems we have by simply going to church ,but God shows the way To those numbskulls who think this is not a worthy project ,what about the Black stars? We spend millions of dollars on them and they go to tournaments with all those weird hair cuts. What do we get in return? Zilch, nada. At a point in time each one had 100,00 0 dollars in his paws. How many professors in our universities can have that? There should be severe sanctions against people who waste the time of the judiciary on n0ns3nsical suits
This guy is fighting for recognition or relevance. After having sold his conscience to NDC in the past. His submissions have become illogical. Nokofio politician. Check, in the army we always hold interdenominational/nondenominational services that embraces all faiths so there is nothing wrong with a national cathedral to forge unity among the various faiths. I am appalled by this SDA bigot.
Kabila am soo ashamed you these stands, pls don't incur the wrath of God upon yourself. Pls don't be too knowing. That's my advice to you.
In fact, our leaders should be wise up! I personally have no problem for the sitting government to build a national cathedral but first things first. I strogley believe that dumsor, clean water to the northerns, road net works , job creation, are very important for our national growth. Ghanaians are still struggling with the basic necessities of life, which should have been dealt with decades ago. The government should separate his policies from religion and focus on taking Ghanaians from darkness and provide good opportunities for all. What about the traditional believes? if they propose to the government to build them a national shrine, what will be the government response! Nana Addo must remain imbalance in his government for serve the good people of Ghanan.
Government sponsorship for Muslims to go hajj, is it constitutional? KWABENA.
Kabila is more than right, government has no business in using the state money to advance the course of belief of any group of people whether Christians,Muslims,Hindus ,budist, traditionalist etc. Africa leaders are so lazy and always seek to do the cheap things in order to win power. Use the state funds to build factories and not churches or mosques. We are Africans are the most loudest and lengthiest prayerful continent in the world and yet we are the poorest. Africans let us think, think, thinkooo, think ebaaii.
good move! Ghana is growing. It is agaimst the constitution, period
