The World Bank will soon withdraw its grant support on water and sanitation to Ghana, Mr Charles Dzradosi, a Social Policy Specialist of UNICEF, has said.
This is because, for some years now, Ghana had not demonstrated any true political will to tackle sanitation problems in the country. Mr Dzradosi was speaking during the Brong-Ahafo Regional launch of the 2016 Ghana District Table (DLT) in Sunyani.
The DLT is a simple ranking tool showing national progress towards delivering development across the country’s 216 districts.
Mr Dzradosi said the World Bank did not understand why open defecation must still persist in the country despite its continuous assistance to eradicate the unhygienic practice. He said the World Bank was also not happy that many Ghanaians still lacked access to basic sanitary facilities, particularly household toilets.
Mr Dzradosi said a directive was required from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to push metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) to tackle the issue of sanitation in a more proactive manner.
MMDAs must strictly enforced sanitation bye-laws and also ensure that enough public toilets are provided for the citizens, he said.

this is how ndc single handedly destroyed everything. they stole all the monies that were given to them by foreign donors for specific projects. Anyway, this is a good decision. it is time we stop going to these ple begging them for support. Dr Bawumia said this and I hope we will have the human will to manage our resources in a good way that will benefit the population. we have more than enough to cater for our problems. all we need is ple with good mind and the nation at heart. not an evil group of ple like ndc.
I think Its good a decision. Our leaders keep messing up cos these sources available to support their political ambitions instead of developing the country.
Thank you. But the politicians collude with the technical people at the local government ministry, district assemblies, water and sanitation agencies, water drillers, toilet builders, NGOs contracted to do some work and many more, to squander the money. The system has been corrupted for a very long time.
lol No wonder they are asking homes to foot have of the cost of erection the toilet facility.
They should redraw support of everything. Our politicians are liars and they always use their monies given to enrich themselves. World bank should be wise. Please channel your money somewhere else where it will be used to the betterment for the citizens. For the country Ghana, please forget it.
