Hundreds of nurses and health professionals are threatening to vote out the New Patriotic Party government in 2020 it fails to review some terms and conditions governing the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo).
“He [President Nana Akufo-Addo shouldn’t worry. 2020 is coming. We voted him in and we will vote him out,” some nurses shouted in unison to Citi News as they marched in protest against the Heal Ghana module under NaBCo.
The nurses, who belong to the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees Association and the National Health Students Association of Ghana, want amendments made to the Heal Ghana module under NaBCo.
They are also demanding financial clearance which has not been forthcoming for many months, to pave way for their employment. “The reason why we are against this policy is that, this policy is just detrimental to our lives. This policy is something that is not going to help us. This policy has no future for the nurses,” one protester told Citi News.
“We feel like the government has lied to us. The government promised us financial clearance in May; not NaBCo. NaBCo is a stranger to us. It came all of a sudden and we are even shocked I don’t think anybody understands it,” another nurse said.
Despite their complaints, the government has explained that unemployed nurses who sign unto the corps will still be posted when they eventually receive financial clearance from the Finance Ministry.
The Coordinator of the Nation Builders Corps, Dr. Ibrahim Anyass, has stated that although there are openings for graduate nurses to be employed under the scheme, application for the jobs is not compulsory.
According to him, the project had been initiated by the government as a stopgap measure to allow graduates from tertiary institutions who had completed their mandatory year of National Service gain vital work experience, while ensuring that they continue to practice the skills they have learnt.
“Government has put in place a graduate employment scheme called the Nation Builders Corps. The Scheme is an enrichment process to add value to any graduate that seeks to become employable in the future in a permanent fashion. That does not replace the natural processes of recruitment in the public or private sector. So the NaBCo project has nothing to do with stopping of clearances for future recruitment except that it guarantees you security to be able to use your talents to practice, especially those who have hands-on skills like nurses…What we are saying is that it’s not compulsory to get onto the Nation Builders Corps, it doesn’t stop your clearance. You are gaining some kind of integrity in terms of your professional practice by taking advantage of this scheme to practice while waiting for your clearance.”

I don't understand these nurses, who has forced them to register for NABCO? As far as am concern this program is optional so you if you don't want it just shut your beaks and stay home and be unemployed. who cares?
This people I think still have the school mind and thinks that work is about threat or demonstration. People do National Service and they pay bribes to have extension on that meager allowance and you have this you are complaining. If their leaders cannot go with a better alternative or contribution they should keep quite.
From 2013 to 2016, no nurse was recruited by the Mahama administration. This government has cleared a backlog of about 24000 nurses and wants to supplement it with NABCO. And you say wetin? Oya! Vote for NDC and i can promise you that you will be unemployed for many years to come.
we voted for npp but from the look of disappointment,we will surely vote them out because our allowance for the past 4months haven't been pay but government keep on bragging and still show their disrespect to the the whole profession but let Dr Bawumia and Nana Addo be aware that they came far away from Accra and campaign in Damongo Nurses' training college to vote massively for npp and they wont disrepect the image of nursing as ndc did to us but from the look of things ndc is far better than this npp government lead by Disappointed Bawumia and Nana Adddo,,,,NURSES AND TEACHER TRAINING STUDENTS WILL SHOW NPP THE WAY TO OPPOSITION
Complete and total n0ns3nse! You don’t have a job and you’re sitting here commenting. The Ndc has promised to get you a job as soon as they come back if you use their modus operandi (MO) whichbis serial commenting! You’re not only as dim as a weak light bulb, you should be ashamed to call yourself Ghanaian. If Ndc comes back( which they won’t), they will conveniently forget about you ONCE AGAIN! St00pid individual!
I didn't want to comment on this because a lot has been said already, however, I will give this piece of advice to the so-called nurses who are demonstrating against the NABCO initiative, each person should look at his or her personal case on individual basis, not on that of the group whose leaderships are probably being influenced with some incentives from the nay-sayers of the program. Ask yourself, how much do you make a month by staying home without a job? Can your parents or whoever is providing for your needs continue to do so till you find a permanent job that you're waiting for? What do you lose by signing up to do this program that can at least give you something to do, and give you some money to live by without having to rely on anyone? take a moment and assess yourself critically to see whether by kicking against this program, you will be better off than you are now, don't just blindly follow the crowd, think of your own individual case. A word to the wise, we say is enough!
I completed Kumasi Polytechnic with 1st Class in Accountancy but started with 80 cedis salary in 2006 till I later changed job. You are lucky to start with 700 cedis and look at how ungrateful you are. Mahama said Ghanaians have short memory and this is exactly how you people are. Look at how you were enjoying after receiving your allowance which Mahama and NDC cancelled. I think it is high time the Gov't cancels this allowance and ask you to find your own jobs after completion, then you will see the real world. In fact you have been over pampered. How can you demonstrate against a program which is not mandatory or compulsory for you?
Bring Mahama, who cares? is that a threat or what? actually NaBCo is optional. stay at home. are better done the degree holders ready to take the offer?
You are taking 400.00 in a private clinic. Gov't is offering you 700.00 almost double and you are talking of someone who get 1,300.00. Rather unfortunate, stay home forever until your father and mother retire and create space for you to go and work. God is watching you all.
just look at their gyimiiiiii ndc faces
