President Akufo-Addo has said he’s “disturbed” about the incident that occurred at the Accra Mall Thursday, 11 October 2018. Shoppers ran helter skelter after the ceiling at one of the shopping centres at the mall caved in.
Three people reportedly sustained minor injuries with the Police and Fire Service officers being on hand to ensure order.
President Akufo Addo who is currently in the UK on official working visit in a tweet denounced the poor maintenance culture in the country, urging facility managers to “improve our maintenance culture.”

OH, THE PRESIDENT I VOTED TO OFFICE. THE MAN WE HAVE SO MUCH TRUST IN HAS LOST TOUCH WITH THE PEOPLE. SOMEONE'S BUSINESS LIKE MENZGLOD IS BEING DESTROYED YET, THE CARING PRESIDENT HAS NOT SAID A WORD.BUT, SOMEONE SMALL ROOF IS LEAKING AND THE PRESIDENT IS DISTURB. MR. PRESIDENT, WE KNOW WHY YOU ARE WORRIED. ALL THAT WE CAN SAY IS THAT GO AHEAD AND FEED YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS TO THE NEGLECT OF OTHERS. 2020, REAL DEMOCRACY WILL BE AT PLAY YOU WILL GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM. IF THE OPERATORS OF MENZGOLD DOES NOT HAVE THE DOCUMENT TO OPERATE ISSUE ONE THEM? WHAT IS DIFFICULTY HERE? NPP WHO BELIEVES IN PRIVATE ENTERPRISE IS DOING THIS GHANA HAVE NO FUTURE. AS A BUSINESSMAN, I FEEL SORRY FOR THE OWNERS OF MENZGOLD. THIS IS BAD NEWS UNDER NPP GOVERNMENT. HUNDREDS OF MENZGOLD WORKERS HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS UNDER A GOVERNMENT WHO IS NOT CREATING EMPLOYMENT. SO SAD
Hmmm always separating the sheep from the goat. People were killed in flooding here in Northern Ghana yet this man called President of Ghana was mute. Now see hypocrisy to the highest of high
You people should shut-up. Simple ceiling collapse and you make unnecessary noise as if there is terrorist. It seems your minds are too lazy and need to be occupied by such activities you term news, ***barred word***. Mr president, if you could tweet at such speed, then please tweet every Friday in asking Ghanaian's to educate themselves about the up-coming referendum about whether we want to elect our mayor or not (which by electing, we stand the best chance of better development as against now) for them to be informed so as not to be lied to or bullied by greedy and selfish politicians.
Oh Ghana! What's this? Are wires or just tiny irons used for the roofing? Just look at the materials used, it shows wickedness to use such tiny materials for such a huge building roofing. HEADS MUST ROLL!!! If this were to be in South Korea many would have been put in prison for a shoddy job done but not in Ghana what a shame
You are not disturbed people monnies are locked in the banks and micro finance.
THE PRESIDENT IS NOT DISTURBED ABOUT WHAT S.E.C AND B.O.G IS DOING TO MENZGOLD AND THE PUBLIC BUT HE IS DISTURBED ABOUT THE COLLAPSE. HMMMMMMM GHANA AND POLITICS
The issue of malls needs to be looked at again in a rapidly changing market ecosystem where e-commerce is taking the lead in shopping. If you look at the advanced and developed economies, the square footage or space of malls is increasing astronomically as e-commerce increasingly becomes the main form of shopping. It is for this reason, such a concept is actually coming to our part of the world but realistically, if we are looking at digitization of the economy with a digital address system and all, the "mall projects" would need to give way to something else as everything goes online. We must keep that in mind and effectively plan the use of land.
He is disturbed because it was built during the era of the NPP government of kuffour and he was the foreign minister who was part of the team. If this was built under mahama, by this time he would have written thesis on the collapse. Barwumia would have quoted incompetence as the reason for the collapse. Hypocrites!
Mr. President, just order that contractor to be hauled to court.
