Concerned Graduates of University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus has kicked against the decision of the Management of UDS to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale.
A statement issued by the Concerned Graduates of UDS, Wa Campus signed by Ampofo Ofori Samuel, its Convenor, and copied to GNA in Tamale on Saturday, said the decision to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale presented a lot of inconvenience and further costs to the graduates, who have already made arrangements to attend the ceremony at the Wa Campus.
UDS has for some time been holding separate graduation ceremonies where students, who completed their studies at Wa Campus, and Navrongo Campus, graduate at their campuses whiles those at Tamale and Nyankpala Campuses graduate at the Tamale Campus.
UDS planned to hold graduation ceremony for the Wa Campus on November 17, this year but suddenly changed this decision and asked those to graduate at the Wa Campus to rather join the rest of the graduates at the Tamale Campus for the graduation on November 10, this year.
The statement said “On the issue of rescheduling the venue to Tamale to host all campuses, we feel this is a form of disrespect to the entire congregation without giving notice earlier.
They have not even given us a tangible reason for the impromptu change in venue, which we believe is totally unacceptable.”
It said “preparations have already been made as to where we will be accommodated together with our families without much hustle. Our friends were joining other students on campus to free up some rooms for our accommodation. Now the changes mean we all struggle to book for hotels and guest houses around Tamale for ourselves and our families on top of the huge amount of money taken as graduation fees.”
The statement said “we want to tell the administrators that we graduates from Wa campus want the ceremony done on our campus to reduce our stress, hustle for accommodation, and hustle for graduation gowns that are not even enough.”
It warned that “if our plea is not considered, UDS will experience its first graduation boycott.”
GNA spoke to a member of the Management of UDS, who confirmed the decision and said the Management of UDS was making efforts to engage the students to understand the situation and attend the graduation ceremony in Tamale.

How can a student toil for 4 and 5 years just to attain a degree in a course of study and just when she's about graduating she realises her name is not on both the online and manual graduation list #udsgraduationboycott
the decision is outrageous and absurd the University should not just change venue a week to the congregation because the Prez will want to attend so if there are no students who will the Prez address??
Eeeeeiiiiii Awurade Sem b be Blue hill ab) ka awwww best joint so b3y3 den. This is the time they will have to make some money now look. Prez you know how the economy is now and I am sure you wouldn’t want to be the cause of bad Christmas season for people in Wa. Mahama have already said this Christmas is going to be though so please don’t make his words come through....😩😩😩
We the graduands' of Wa campus want our standalone graduation ceremony on our campus and not on someone else's.. We stand to boycott this graduation ceremony if management insist on holding the ceremony at Tamale.. Of course no graduand from Wa campus will attend.. #Mark our words... #Boycott,Boycott
Management of UDS please hear our plea we want to have our graduation in wa most of us have booked hotels and had plans for our relatives who will be joining us and all of a sudden there’s a change of venue without taking students welfare into consideration
What is the essence of traveling this long distance for four years with a genuine SHS results, having a genuine GPA and at the end your name will be ommited from the final graduation list 3y3 as3m ooooo
how can the school authorities change the venue just a week to the ceremony after some students have already made hotel reservations for their guests coming.Mr President can grace the ceremony at Tamale whilst we have ours at WA.
I am not ashamed of the terrible environment I schooled. I want my parents to have a feel of the environment.
Wa Campus BOYCOTT Graduation Ceremony in TAMALE . We Schooled in Wa, Wrote and Passed all EXAMS in Wa. So we need our Graduation in WA. Period!!!
the way this school management is treating us is very bad.how can u take this decision, without students being aware at this latter part. we have a long way to go in this county. they should take their graduation. we are not coming again
