Concerned Graduates of University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus has kicked against the decision of the Management of UDS to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale.
A statement issued by the Concerned Graduates of UDS, Wa Campus signed by Ampofo Ofori Samuel, its Convenor, and copied to GNA in Tamale on Saturday, said the decision to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale presented a lot of inconvenience and further costs to the graduates, who have already made arrangements to attend the ceremony at the Wa Campus.
UDS has for some time been holding separate graduation ceremonies where students, who completed their studies at Wa Campus, and Navrongo Campus, graduate at their campuses whiles those at Tamale and Nyankpala Campuses graduate at the Tamale Campus.
UDS planned to hold graduation ceremony for the Wa Campus on November 17, this year but suddenly changed this decision and asked those to graduate at the Wa Campus to rather join the rest of the graduates at the Tamale Campus for the graduation on November 10, this year.
The statement said “On the issue of rescheduling the venue to Tamale to host all campuses, we feel this is a form of disrespect to the entire congregation without giving notice earlier.
They have not even given us a tangible reason for the impromptu change in venue, which we believe is totally unacceptable.”
It said “preparations have already been made as to where we will be accommodated together with our families without much hustle. Our friends were joining other students on campus to free up some rooms for our accommodation. Now the changes mean we all struggle to book for hotels and guest houses around Tamale for ourselves and our families on top of the huge amount of money taken as graduation fees.”
The statement said “we want to tell the administrators that we graduates from Wa campus want the ceremony done on our campus to reduce our stress, hustle for accommodation, and hustle for graduation gowns that are not even enough.”
It warned that “if our plea is not considered, UDS will experience its first graduation boycott.”
GNA spoke to a member of the Management of UDS, who confirmed the decision and said the Management of UDS was making efforts to engage the students to understand the situation and attend the graduation ceremony in Tamale.

please help us push our agenda ok. 😩😭 the president should delegate one of the ministers to address the congregation in Wa. Awwwww 😭😭.
His excellency please let your fatherly love prevail now as we plead you consider the stress we will be going through if the graduation should hold in tamale. 😭😭😩
Uds paaaaaa.... Highest CGPA holder and several others of Good standing to graduate per university standards, can't find their names in graduation list, hence won't have it in the graduation book... What then will be the prove of graduating apart from the certificate. #Boycott
If graduands are having issues Pertaining to their results of which some of them do not have their names in the graduation list, what of we the continuing students Something needs to be done urgently else the school is at the risk of collapsing
Management shouldn’t try and engage us to understand and attend the ceremony im Tamale but rather put in measures for it to be held in Wa, simple!! #NoWaNoGraduation!!
I urge the people of Wa to rise up and talk.. graduation in Tamale means their guests houses won't will lose customers. Their local economy will lose a lot...
Aawwwww Daddy Akufo-Addo, please how can this be possible that you school in a region and graduate in another region. Even let us put that aside, those who have booked for rest lodges, what are they supposed to do. Please reconsider... Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is the best person to delegate and he will do just as you would have done it.
We are students of UDS wa campus and we want the president to hear us out “we want Our graduation to be done in WA nt Tamale” We can have a nice graduation even if the president is not able to come To WA. THANK YOU
The fact that school authorities are not willing not listen to us we have rights and we can't be denied our rights Without us there wouldn't be a VC So we want our graduation on our campus #udsgraduationboycott
The school authority have to rethink this decision. I thought we were running a democratic system where the views of the majority matter...? A week to graduation norr go to Tamale...? Why didn't they matriculate the level hundreds in Tamale...?
