Concerned Graduates of University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus has kicked against the decision of the Management of UDS to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale.
A statement issued by the Concerned Graduates of UDS, Wa Campus signed by Ampofo Ofori Samuel, its Convenor, and copied to GNA in Tamale on Saturday, said the decision to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale presented a lot of inconvenience and further costs to the graduates, who have already made arrangements to attend the ceremony at the Wa Campus.
UDS has for some time been holding separate graduation ceremonies where students, who completed their studies at Wa Campus, and Navrongo Campus, graduate at their campuses whiles those at Tamale and Nyankpala Campuses graduate at the Tamale Campus.
UDS planned to hold graduation ceremony for the Wa Campus on November 17, this year but suddenly changed this decision and asked those to graduate at the Wa Campus to rather join the rest of the graduates at the Tamale Campus for the graduation on November 10, this year.
The statement said “On the issue of rescheduling the venue to Tamale to host all campuses, we feel this is a form of disrespect to the entire congregation without giving notice earlier.
They have not even given us a tangible reason for the impromptu change in venue, which we believe is totally unacceptable.”
It said “preparations have already been made as to where we will be accommodated together with our families without much hustle. Our friends were joining other students on campus to free up some rooms for our accommodation. Now the changes mean we all struggle to book for hotels and guest houses around Tamale for ourselves and our families on top of the huge amount of money taken as graduation fees.”
The statement said “we want to tell the administrators that we graduates from Wa campus want the ceremony done on our campus to reduce our stress, hustle for accommodation, and hustle for graduation gowns that are not even enough.”
It warned that “if our plea is not considered, UDS will experience its first graduation boycott.”
GNA spoke to a member of the Management of UDS, who confirmed the decision and said the Management of UDS was making efforts to engage the students to understand the situation and attend the graduation ceremony in Tamale.

Why do our leaders take decisions to favor them at the expense of those they are leading or ruling? Please they should stop being self fish and self centered .There is no VC without students . we are the ones who have made UDS a school to be attended. Not them...The VC should attend the graduation with his relatives .Thank you
Good morning His excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, the special guest for University for Development Studies forthcoming graduation. Mr president, it has come to our notice, that the graduation which was to be held on our own Campus, WA CAMPUS, the venue have been changed to TAMALE CAMPUS just a week to the event. The management have refused to give us the reason behind this but only to tell us "IT'S MANAGEMENT DECISION". When I contacted one of the leaders of UDS WA CAMPUS, he also confirmed it was a decision from above. He again stated that, the president has decided to grace the graduation in TAMALE and not WA. Mr president, ever since we started schooling on uds Wa campus, every graduation happens on our own campus so why your presents has brought the sudden change? Management doesn't want to comment about this and only to be authoritative with their managerial incompetence. When i talk of managerial incompetence, let me give you example, on 2nd November, 2018, the school representatives met the management to discuss about their school fees "flat rate" the management walked out of the meeting, telling the students, the school cannot refund their monies to them. Also, the VC, told the students and i quote from Ezuke, " I have not been to UDS, I don't need UDS for anything, I don't need UDS certificate for anything and i don't have UDS certificate". You do not need UDS for anything, the reason you make decision anyhow without considering the students welfare. Another reason the students being admitted at WA CAMPUS keep decreasing every year. Why should we attend school on our campus and go for graduation on another campus? We can boldly say, the leaders in Tamale does not want you to see our bushy and lack of infrastructures on UDS WA CAMPUS. We the students have been silent for long, this decision must be changed or graduands BOYCOTT it or on graduation day, it will be DEAD GOATS ALL DIE BE DIE. Mr president, some of us are dying meeting you to present our grievances from poor management of the school but not in this way. We will not sit for UDS WA CAMPUS to be under incompetent dictatorship leading to the collapse of the school. *FROM A CONCERN STUDENT
If the graduation is not held in wa we are not attending. What sort of dictatorship is this
No wonder they were accused of sabotaging WA campus. This is a clear indication. Nkwasiass3m aa kwa
We are seek and tired of imposing things on us..This is the right time to act..#udsgraduationboycott
We're expressing our discomfort about the sudden change of venue and the omission of names of some graduands from the graduating list and it looks like management has not seen it anywhere. This is serious!!! I believe we deserve to know the reason(s) that led to this sudden change. Because we're all citizens of mother Ghana and complete beneficiaries of this all time democracy we preach. Someone must say something
Enough of the autocracy. Students names are omitted from the graduation list, this issue is not resolved yet you take decision without consulting we the stakeholders of the ceremony. revert your decision or ......#udsgraduationboycott
where will we sleep? where will our parents sleep? please just think about our welfare and the hustle we have to go through. We are low on funds to rent hotels, the fare alone is about 100 cedis per an individual calculate for a family of six plus the hotel fee. On wa campus we can find accomodation for ourselves and free up space for our parents.
It is very difficult personally for me to recommend this thing call " UDS" unto any one, why? Because there's nothing working here. Decisions are taken in vacuum, a week to graduation before such crucial decisions are taken. Please 21st century contemporary tertiary institution deserves better than this. Give us a break.
This is so not fair. They can't just change the venue of the graduation just a week to the ceremony and expect us to take it cool with them. How on earth is that possible. They must listen to us and bring the ceremony back to wa campus.
